After entering the water test results in the Pool Professor I see a screen called Chemical Analysis, do I need to follow all the recommendations?
- No, these are recommendations designed to get your water chemistry back to the target levels. Pool operators should know such things as not adjusting their alkalinity and hardness within 24 hours of each other. Also, the Chemical Analysis screen is showing you the proper order to treat your water (chlorine/bromine, alkalinity, pH, cyanuric acid, and hardness).
What are the Saturation Index and the Ryznar Index? Is there a difference?
- For many years professional swimming pool operators have been balancing their water using the saturation index to help maximize the effectiveness of the chemicals and to limit scale formation in pipes and equipment. The new kid on the block is the Ryznar Index, which more specifically deals with the corrosive nature of water. If pool water is balanced using either index, their pool will be easier to maintain and have better water quality.
During the Pool Professor setup phase I am asked to pick the different chemicals to be used. The names from which to choose from are not familiar to me.
- You need only look at the Label of Ingredients on the packaging of the chemical. Learning the proper name of chemicals can help you save a great deal of money by buying generic chemicals in quantity.
The program does not allow me to enter a pH of 7.0 when setting up my target values. Is there a problem?
- During the initial set up you are allowed to enter target values that are within accepted parameters in the swimming pool and spa industry. This feature is designed for safety and to give you the ability to do computer water analysis at home or work.
Can I enter more than one pool or spa on the program?
- Absolutely. The Professional Version will allow up to 100 different pools and spas, the Commercial Version will allow up to 5 different pools and spas, and the Residential version, will allow 1 pool and 1 spa to be entered into the database. Each pool or spa can have separate characteristics in the database regarding chemicals used, number of gallons, test result targets, attendance and maintenance categories, and much more.
Can test results be entered in the program more than once a day?
- Yes. All different types of entries can be recorded as many times a day as needed. Maintenance and attendance reports, chemicals added, and general information can be introduced at anytime. The program reads the internal clock and calendar of your computer and records a time and date stamp as to when the information is entered.
Can reports be downloaded into any other basic computer programs?
- Another great thing about this program is that it will allow you to download your reports into Microsoft Excel. This spreadsheet application will allow you to do a vast array of enhancement to the reports.
Speaking of reports, can I pick a range of dates to look up information? What type of information can I find?
- The Pool Professor will allow you to view and/or print report information in a large number of important areas by the date range you select. For example you can track information for the month of July regarding attendance, maintenance, weather conditions, test results, chemicals used and more.
Is there any useful information in the Help section of the program?
- Most definitely. There is MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) on the major pool chemicals that can easily be printed out. There are more than sixty (60) different types of aquatic forms and checklists available along with a wealth of general pool care and procedure information. Subjects range from water testing to water treatment, forms from the mechanical room, employees, and operational procedures to safety information.
Can the Attendance and Maintenance Categories be changed after the original setup?
- No. Because this would affect the database, the program will not allow you to change the headings after the initial setup. If there were major changes you could always start a new pool or do your needed changes in Excel.
